You know you have reached the status of #Adulting when you start to regularly clean your place, and not the “cleaning” where you hide things in the closet or under the bed, but actually clean with like, cleaning products and rubber gloves.

Now that I have a house and a child and a dog, not only do I feel like I’m an authentic adult, but I’ve also come to appreciate the art of a good cleaning (and appreciate the ability of these two creatures to create so much more mess!). So let’s be honest here. I actually hate cleaning, but I do love the feeling of a clean house. Something about everything in its place and smelling fresh just makes me feel so much more relaxed.

With Spring on the horizon, the weather is warming up. We’re packing away our Winter clothes, opening our windows, and tackling the dreaded “Spring cleaning.” As someone who has done her fair share of Spring cleaning, I’m here to make it more tolerable with my top cleaning tips:

Declutter – Decluttering has been brought to the forefront in recent years with that bestselling book about the magic of tidying up or something along those lines. Apparently there is a Japanese art to it, so you know it’s legit and probably very zen. For me, I’m lazy. It’s much easier to clean when your house doesn’t look like an episode of Hoarders: Buried Alive. Decluttering is a great way to start the cleaning process. Packing away items from the previous season, or even setting things aside to donate or sell on Kijiji, is a great way to make your house feel cleaner without breaking too much of a sweat.

Make a Playlist – Amp up your cleaning with some dance breaks. Not only will a good playlist make cleaning go by faster, you’ll sneak in some cardio while mopping the floors. Must have songs on my cleaning playlist include Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and Eminem’s “Cleaning Out My Closet.”

Get Comfy –  This one may be common sense, but don’t wear your Sunday best to clean. If you’re doing a good Spring cleaning you’re bound to get a bit dirty yourself. Bust out some comfy clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. You know, that oversized t-shirt that you got when you signed up for the gym paired with the leggings with the blown out crotch…or am I the only one that wears this stuff? Probably…anyway, there’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable when you’re trying to reach those dust bunnies under the bed so dress for comfort to maximize your cleaning abilities.

Use Something Multi-Purpose – When you’re cleaning it can get expensive to purchase a ton of different products so its always best to look for something that has multiple uses. Lately, I have been using Pine-Sol. Pine-Sol is an effective, multi-surface cleaner that works to provide a powerful clean throughout the home. It packs a one-two punch by disinfecting AND deodorizing. Pine-Sol provides a powerful clean by cutting through grease, grime and dirt and is safe on surfaces like your sinks, counters, floors, stoves, bathtubs…you name it!

Appeal to Your Senses – I don’t know about you, but I love the smell of a clean house. I’m not talking about that chemical or bleach smell, but a nice, fresh scent. My favourite right now is Pine-Sol’s new Spring Blossom scent. It is a combination of Jasmine, Magnolia and Orange Blossom. The scent isn’t overpowering and reminds me of a fresh bouquet of flowers or hanging out in your garden. I love light, floral scents so this one is right up my alley.

So now that you’re feeling zen from decluttering, rocking your oversized shirt, have your cleaning playlist blaring and your multi-purpose, fresh smelling cleaner in hand, it’s time to get cleaning!
