I am constantly trying to find small ways to impact my life for the better. We all know the cliched ones like take the stairs or park farther away, but what about the ones we’ll actually do, the ones that are easy and actually work? Those are the small changes I am here to talk about today. Here are 5 small changes that have a big impact on your life:
Start your day off on the right foot. Make it a point to start your day with positivity. When you alarm goes off, instead of dreading the day ahead, embrace it. Fuel your body with a vitamin-rich smoothie and listen to your favourite tunes in the car on the way to work to get you ready for the day ahead.
Practice gratitude. They say gratitude is the best attitude, but its not an easy thing to practice. Whenever something isn’t going my way, or I’m suffering from a “first world problem”, I like to think of 10 good things that are happening in my life that day that cancel out whatever is going wrong. This constant practice will help you shift your thinking and can have a big impact on your life.
Incorporate some vitamin nature. Being cooped up inside at work, at the computer, or binge-watching Netflix doesn’t do our body much good. Resolve to spend twenty minutes outside, whether that means going for a morning jog, a walk on your lunch break or simply sitting on a bench and reading a book. Fresh air is so good for you and can recharge your batteries when you’re having a rough day. Bonus points if you ditch the cell phone during your outdoor time. I swear those selfies can wait.
Spend time with the people you love. Nothing beats spending time with the people that make your heart sing. It can be hard to fit in time with friends and family during the week when live tends to be busy, but scheduling one night a week for quality time with friends, family or your partner is so important and worthwhile. You cannot put a price on being around people that bring out the best in you and let you be your true self.
Switch out your afternoon snack for something protein packed. Do you suffer from the 3:00 pm slump? You know, when all you want to do is crawl under your desk and nap George Costanza style or eat something sweet. Recently, I’ve been incorporating Nordica Cottage Cheese into my diet and having it in the afternoon. My favourite way to enjoy it is to sweeten it up with some a bit of chocolate protein powder, some fruit or a bit of cinnamon and a few raisins. Gay Lea’s Nordica Cottage Cheese is made from 100% Canadian dairy milk. What’s great is that is also comes in a lactose-free option so people with dairy sensitive like enjoy it without any issue. Nordica Cottage Cheese is perfect for packing a protein punch because just 1/2 cup provides 15g of protein, plus it is also low in fat and a great source of calcium. On top of this, it is also gluten and nut free…so basically there’s no excuse for you not trying some!
These small changes are easy to incorporate into your day-to-day life. Which one will you try out?
