Frock Box. Have you heard of it? If you haven’t, you better look it up! Frock Box merges some of my favourite things: Clothes, subscription boxes, Canadian companies, and hard working moms.
Frock Box is a Canadian subscription box service made for the busy woman. Whether you’re someone who wants to dress in the latest trends, but doesn’t have the time to figure out what they are, a mom who can’t get time to herself, someone that hates the chaos of the mall, or just someone who wants to try something new, Frock Box is for every woman, of every age and size.
What makes Frock Box different? Well if you’re a Canadian gal like me, you’ll know there aren’t many subscription boxes made in Canada. The American ones often don’t ship here, or if they do the price tag is hefty. Frock Box also incorporates the small business (which I love!). Frock Box is proud to promote, sell and purchase from numerous handmade jewelry and accessory vendors across the country.
How does Frock Box work? When you sign up you’ll be prompted to choose what kind of box you’d like to try. There are three options:
- Frock Box Gold: Receive one outfit hand-picked for you by your stylist based on your profile, including a piece of jewelry. $59.95 per month ($9.95 shipping)
- Frock Box Jewel: A handmade piece of jewellery or accessory by a Canadian designer. $29.95 per month ($3 shipping)
- Frock Box Favourites: 5 individually priced clothing items. Try them at home; keep what you want and return the rest. You are billed only for the items you keep. You are charged a monthly styling fee of $24.95, which counts as a credit towards your purchase that month. Keep all 5 items and receive a 25% discount. Shipping is free (including return shipping).
For my first encounter with Frock Box, I tried the Frock Box Favourites Box. I started off completing some basic information about myself – height, weight, bra size, shoe size, top size, pant size, hair colour and ideal price point for the clothing items. I was also asked for a link to my Pinterest board, which I thought was really neat. Tip: I went to my Pinterest Board before I finished signing up and made sure my fashion board was stocked with current Pins of clothing styles I loved and would love to see in my box.
You can further narrow down your style by answering more questions like who your style icons are, what stores you like to shop at, and what your colour palette is.
Once you’ve filled out all your info, you can sit back and wait. You’ll be paired with a stylist who will handpick your items and mail them out via Canada Post.
I received my first Frock Box last week and was so excited when the purple and white package showed up in my mailbox. Don’t do what I did and rip open the bag….the bag is reusable and is used to ship back the items you won’t be keeping. So don’t rip into it like it’s a Christmas present (even though it feels like it!). Luckily, I was able to still reseal my bag, but just wanted to deliver this PSA for all of you who order your own Frock Box.
Much to my delight, when I opened up my Frock Box there was a wide array of items, and they clearly mirrored my style inspiration from Pinterest! In my box, I received one pair of pants, a kimono style top, a long sleeve top, an off the shoulder shirt and a necklace.
Right off the bat, I was in love with the pants. I was the most nervous looking at them because I am never one to purchase pants without trying them on (unless they are leggings!) so I was pleasantly surprised when they fit perfectly.
Along with your items, you are provided with a sheet detailing each item and the price point. I loved that on my sheet my stylist shared what items she would pair together and how she would style them. She recommended combining the olive pants with the floral kimono and silver necklace and adding a dark tank top and cuffing the pants for summer. As you can see, it’s a perfect suggestion! I love how this outfit turned out.
I was also very smitten with the off the shoulder top that was included in my box. The material was so light and flowy (aka very flattering!), which made for the perfect summer top. Another thing I really liked about Frock Box was the inclusion of a jewelry piece. I felt that the addition of the silver necklace really pulled together my look. At first glance, I thought the necklace was plain, but putting it on it really tied together my look without taking away from the clothing pieces.
The only item I wasn’t really a fan of was the long sleeve black top that was included. It had a criss cross detail across the chest, which I was totally in love with, but the fit was not very flattering. However, I’d say the fact that I loved 4 out of 5 pieces was really impressive to me. Also, I found the price point on the items were reasonable considering how high quality the pieces were. The items in my Frock Box reminded me of clothes and jewelry you find in local boutiques. I loved that they were on trend, but also things I wouldn’t find at the mall.
After you have tried on your items you have five business days to drop them off at your local post office. Like I previously mentioned, the bag is resealable and there is also a return shipping label so there is no out of pocket cost to return your items. You can also fill out how you liked the style and fit of your items and leave any feedback for your stylist so they can build off this for your next box. You can mark off which items you want to keep and then mail back to the rest. If you keep all 5 items in your box you get 25% off.
This was my first time trying out a subscription box like this and overall I was really impressed. I loved the pieces that were picked for me, the sizing and the guidance in how to style them. They were definitely things I would not immediately pick for myself, which I think was the best part of the whole experience. I stepped out of my style bubble and got to try some new brands and styles from the comfort of my own home. I would definitely continue my Frock Box subscription and can’t wait to see what is in my next box!
