I’m always looking for a good breakfast recipe to kick start my day. I used to be a smoothie girl and would religiously make a green smoothie for breakfast every single day….until morning sickness caused me to never want to look at a green smoothie ever again. Since then, I’ve been trying to find something just as nutrient and protein dense for breakfast that is quick to make and easy to take on the go.

This is where the apple cinnamon protein bowl comes in. Apples are perfect for Fall and did you know that eating an apple in the morning will wake you up just as much as a coffee will? I also love adding in the cinnamon, not only because it goes so well with apples but because it is loaded with health benefits.

For the protein component, I add Nordica Smooth Cottage Cheese. My favourite is the Vanilla Bean flavour.  I have written about how I cannot handle the texture of regular cottage cheese before, but Nordica Smooth Cottage Cheese provides all of the benefits of cottage cheese without the lumpy texture. Nordica Smooth Cottage Cheese is the perfect protein source because it is packed with 10g of protein per serving, and only 110 calories.

Now that we have a fruit and protein component, we need to add some grains. I love to add in some granola, along with a handful of chia seeds or hemp hearts. You can also add in ingredients like nuts, raisins, shredded coconut, nut butter, the list goes on and on.

There is no science to this recipe, just try to remember to always have one fruit, one protein and one grain. Simply add as much of each ingredient as you like to your bowl and enjoy.
